About The Event
Indy Chess is hosting another Fischer Random Rumble!
The Fischer Random Rumble is a chess tournament in the Chess960 variant (also called Fischer Random Chess) developed by Bobby Fischer himself. The pieces in the back row for both white and black will be randomized at the beginning of the game, erasing any opening preparation and letting the true masters of the positional and tactical knowledge show their talents!
Tournament details:
- The event is unrated; it does not affect any USCF rating, and membership in USCF is not required to participate.
- Arrive by 6:15pm; pre-registration and pre-payment online required.
- Check-in is 6:00-6:15pm, player meeting at 6:15pm.
- Games start at 6:30pm and rounds two and three start as soon as possible following prior round. Event should end about 9:30pm (9:45pm if blitz playoff is needed).
- Each round allows a three-minute time to study the piece set up. The piece set up (there are 960 possible variations) will be announced before each round, and will change each round.
- The tournament will have two sections, evenly split by published USCF regular rating from February 1. If unrated, player will be placed in lower section unless a reasonable rating estimate can be made placing them in upper section (e.g., FIDE rating, chess.com rapid). Players will be ranked and paired according to USCF regular ratings and USCF pairing rules.
- The games are 25+5, with all clocks, boards, pieces, notation sheets, etc. provided. Notation is required.
- Cash prizes of $40 for 1st place in each section based on 16 players (50% of entries).
- Tiebreak is Chess960 Armageddon blitz playoff with sealed time bid).
- Half point byes can be requested for first and last rounds only. Last round byes must be requested prior to round two's start.
- USCF rules will apply to all tournament games, except the variations allowed for Chess960 regarding piece set up and castling.
