​Thank you for your interest in the CYO chess team at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School!  We are Coaches Mike Chapuran and Kevin Hoy, and we are excited to work with your kids on critical thinking, decision making, and sportsmanship through chess.

Practices will begin on Wednesday afternoons beginning August 20, 2025 until September 24, 2025 from 3:10pm to 4:15pm in the Science Lab (students go directly there after school).  Please have your child bring a big snack to practices (they are HUNGRY after school)!

Matches will be Wednesdays, October 1 to November 5 from 4:30-6:15pm at various TBD schools.  No matches will occur on fall break.  We coordinate parents to donate big snacks on these match days.  Parents also carpool to help with transportation and supervision.  We need all the parents we can get to drive, meeting at STA parking lot about 3:45pm (kids meet at the SciLab at school dismissal for a warm-up with coaches, so no need to find care for them 3-3:45 on match days).  Look for a signupgenius closer to the season.

The season culminates in a team tournament on Saturday, November 8 from 8am-3pm at Lumen Christi School in downtown Indianapolis.  The team will have an end-of-season party on Wednesday, November 12 during the normal practice time in the Science Lab, and that will be the last meeting till January.

Students in all grades are eligible to participate.  The cost is $70 ($50 CYO fee + $20 T-shirt fee) and will be direct billed by St. Thomas Aquinas School to you.  There will be new T-shirts this year.  Questions?  Email Coach Chap at info@indychess.org.  The chess club will be taught by USCF-certified chess instructor Mike Chapuran, who also founded Indy Chess and is a St. Thomas Aquinas parent/parishioner.​
