About The Event
Grandmaster Alex Lenderman is visiting Indianapolis, and Indy Chess is happy to announce two opportunities to learn from (and play) him at the Latvian Community Center! The Friday date (August 11) is geared for teens and adults, and the Sunday date (August 13) is meant for children in 3rd to 7th grades (exceptions allowed, just email us).
The event (both dates) will include a lecture (approx. 45 minutes) and a simultaneous exhibition (approx. two hours). In the lecture, he will share his journey from beginner to grandmaster, presenting some positions from decisive points along the way. In the "simul" following, he will play all attendees at the same time, one move at a time, giving everyone present a chance to play a grandmaster!
GM Lenderman was born in Leningrad in 1989, then moved to Brooklyn at 4 years old. He helped lead the legendary Edward R. Murrow High School to four straight national high school titles. In 2009 he became a professional chess player, and that same year was co-champion of the U.S. Open and earned his grandmaster title at the World Open in Philandelphia. He made the cover of Chess Life magazine after winning the U.S. Open again in 2021, with a shocking 8.5/9.0 performance. He currently is rated 2632 USCF, and lives in St. Louis while attending Webster University.
Space is limited, so get tickets today for this once in a lifetime opportunity for the amateur chess player! There is a $10 discount for members of Indy Chess (join here).
