About The Event

Time to learn endgame techniques!  Kids in 2nd-7th grade who know how the chess pieces move and want to begin to unveil the beauty of the game at the next level are welcome to sign up!

The camp is 9am to 12pm on Thursday, January 4 and Friday, January 5 at St. Thomas Aquinas School.

Coach Mike Chapuran (a USCF-certified chess coach and tournament director, and founder of Indy Chess) will provide a limit of 18 students all of the following:

  • Presentation of common endgame examples and strategies to win;
  • Worksheets to cement the understanding of the concepts;
  • Partner drills to practice the ideas;
  • Recreation breaks in the gym or playground with Scatterball, Knockout, and more;
  • Casual chess play and organized Bughouse games (two-on-two chess);
  • Mid-morning snacks.

Note: If your child already has a USCF rating, this camp is probably best designed for kids who are under 1200.

Before Care is available as early as 8:00am for additional fee of $10/day/child (to be billed at end of camp).  Coach Chap will play chess against all kids that sign up for before care, so it is extra practice!  Kids who do not utilize Before Care may be dropped off no earlier than 8:50am, and picked up no later than 12:10pm.

Also, on Friday, campers may choose to stay from 12pm-3pm to play in a three-round USCF-rated tournament with fellow campers for an additional $17.50.  The additional fee includes a Lunchables meal, drink, and also an afternoon snack.

Questions?  Email Mike at info@indychess.org.  We hope to provide a great experience for your child(ren)!
